During this sacred season, we will intentionally slow down so that we can pay closer attention to our relationship with God, our neighbors, and our planet. Reflect on how the pillars of prayer, fasting and almsgiving can guide your journey for a more enriching Lenten experience. How can practicing these pillars help you to live in solidarity with our sisters and brothers around the world? Visit crsricebowl.org to learn more
The Liturgy Committee will host two evenings of Soup, Bread, and Benediction during this Lenten season. The first one is scheduled for Wednesday, March 1 st, the second is Wednesday, March 22nd. Committee members have volunteered to make crock pots of soup or chili. We will also serve various breads and water, all symbolizing a simple Lenten meal in the spirit of the season.
The meal will start at 5:30 PM and go to 6:30 PM when Benediction will begin. Benediction and Holy Hour will last to approximately 7:30 PM.
If you wish to volunteer making soup or bringing bread, please contact Mary Jane Fradette (279-3487) or Gail O’Brien (472-7184).
AT SAINT NORBERT
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the most important penitential days of the liturgical year. They are days of both fast and abstinence. All Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence.
The rule of fasting states that only one full meal a day can be taken. Two small meals sufficient to maintain strength, are allowed, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals breaks the fast, but drinking liquids does not. The rule of fasting obliges all Catholics from 18 to 59.
Abstinence refers to not eating meat on Fridays. The rule of abstinence binds all Catholics 14 years or older.
ALMSGIVING COLLECTION
There will be a special collection on Ash Wednesday to support Vermont Catholic Charities. This agency provides financial and emotional support to individuals and families throughout Vermont through the programs offered which include Counseling, Emergency Aid, Prison Ministry, and Residential Care Homes. The work that you will support will help transform people’s lives. Please know that every gift makes a difference.
